New iPhone4 Features
Jun 8th
Multitasking: iPhone users will finally be able to run iPhone apps in the background. To achieve this Apple will be offering developers seven multitasking services, which will allow their iPhone app to run in the background while preserving performance and battery life.
Folders: Users will be able to organize iPhone apps on their iPhone home screen into folders. Users will be able to drag and drop apps into folders. This means iPhone users will be able to install 2160 apps instead of the current limit of 180 iPhone apps. However, nothing describes this feature better than the video below. The video also gives a demo of the multitasking feature, which shows how you can close apps running in the background.
Better Mail app: You will now be able to see messages from multiple email accounts in a unified inbox. iPhone OS 4.0 will also allow you to organize messages by threads, and even be able to open attachments in third-party iPhone apps.
iBooks: iBooks app will be available on the App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch users so they will be able to browse, buy, and read ebooks.
New iPhone OS 4.0 Enterprise features:
iPhone OS 4.0 also brings new enterprise features such as data protection, wireless app distribution, mobile device management, SSL VPN support, allows users to set up multiple Exchange ActiveSync accounts and will also work with Exchange Server 2010.
New APIs, iAd, Game Centre:
iPhone OS 4.0 includes more than 1500 new APIs for app developers. Apple has also launched iAd, mobile advertising platform for iPhone apps. Apple has also announced that it plans to launch Game Center, the social gaming network
later this year and has provided GameKit APIs in iPhone OS 4.0 to develop for Game Center. In addition to the features announced by Apple, we’ve discovered the following hidden features:
Cellular Data Toggling: You have an option to toggle cellular data on or off.
Messages Character Count: You can turn on the ‘Character Count’ option in Messages Settings in order to keep a tab on the number of characters while typing a message.
Text Messages Search: iPhone OS 4 extends the iPhone’s inbox search feature to text messages. You can finally search through your SMS messages.
Camera Zooming: As reported earlier, users taking a picture from their iPhone will now see a sliding bar at the bottom of the screen to zoom in and out while taking a picture (up to 5x digital zoom). Alternately, tapping on the screen will also allow users to zoom in and out while taking a picture.
Web and Wikipedia Search: As we had reported earlier, the global search screen on the iPhone now has two additional options – ‘Search Web’ and ‘Search Wikipedia’ to let users directly search for content on the web and Wikipedia.
Document Border: Previewing documents on the iPhone will now display these files without the borders. This is expected to help squeeze in an additional pixel or two of content.
Add New Contacts: The Contact window on the iPhone looks more streamlined in iPhone OS 4 allowing users to enter more details about the contact without navigating away from the main screen.
iPhoto Syncing: iPhoto users can sync their photos to the iPhone via Events, Faces and Places. This will work for the iPad too.
Lyrics Data Toggling: A new global toggling option gives you the ability to turn the display of lyrics on or off.
Photo Resize Option: Users sending large-size image files via email can choose to resize the photo on the go by selecting from the four different file size options.
Add Playlist: The current on-the-go playlists will be replaced by the ‘Add Playlist’ option in iPhone OS 4 that will be automatically synced back to the users’ iTunes account.
Album Info: Browsing albums have traditionally displayed the tracks and the shuffle option. You can view the album thumbnail, track count, length of tracks and album release date.
Location Services For Apps: You can enable or disable location services for each location based apps via Settings -> Location Services. Also, you also get visibility on the apps that have most recently accessed this information using the compass arrow icon.
Email Threading: You can organize emails by thread in the Mail app just like in Gmail. Email threading option can be turned on or off via Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar and turn on or off the ‘Organize By Thread’ toggle (this feature was demoed during the iPhone OS 4 event, the screenshot shows you how it can be enabled).
Longer Passcodes: Passcodes will no longer be limited to just 4 numbers. You can set a more secure alphanumeric and longer passcode for your iPhone. You can currently use the iPhone Configuration utility to achieve this.
Alerts On App Folders: iPhone OS 4 gives you the ability to sort apps into folders. When any of the apps inside a folder receives an alert, you’ll be informed of the same with an exclamation point over the main folder icon.
Flashlight mode: An iPhone user has demonstrated the ability of the iPhone to act as a flashlight. This is done by pressing the power/lock button of an iPhone running iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 4 three times in quick succession, which lights up the iPhone display with a bright white screen. Pressing the power button one more time will replace the flashlight screen with the normal iPhone display. You can watch the flashlight in action in the video embedded below.
iPhone Tethering: AT&T has also announced that it will finally allow iPhone tethering with the release of iOS 4. AT&T customers will have to pay $20 to enable it.
Availability and Compatibility: iPhone OS 4.0 will be available as a free upgrade to iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, second and third generation iPod Touch users. Also the multitasking feature will be available only to iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod Touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009) users.
iPhone4, Everything is changed again.
Jun 8th
iPhone4 is here to change everything again. Find below then features that will keep it different then any other phone.
FaceTime: iPhone 4 comes with two cameras, a front facing camera in addition to a camera at the back.
The front facing camera will allow iPhone 4 users to make and receive video calls. You can switch between the two cameras during a video call with a tap of a button. You’ll also be able to make calls in both portrait and landscape mode.
But you can make and receive video calls only between two iPhone 4s. It will be interesting to see if iPhone apps like Skype will allow users to make video calls to other Skype users on computers or other mobile devices. Video calling works only over Wi-Fi.
Steve Jobs has mentioned that the feature is Wi-Fi only in 2010 but they’re working with cellular providers to allow video calls over 3G.
Retina Display: iPhone 4 will be running at a resolution of 960×640. Apple is calling the iPhone 4 display, the Retina Display.
Apple has managed to pack four times more pixels in the display as compared to previous iPhone models. The pixel density of iPhone 4’s display is 336 pixels as compared to 163 pixels in iPhone 3GS thus making it the smartphone with the highest-resolution screen currently.
iPhone OS 4.0 which has be renames as iOS 4 will automatically make iPhone apps work on the higher resolution Retina display.
HD Video Recording: iPhone 4 users will be able to shoot movies in high definition HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio. Apple has also announced a new iPhone app called iMovies for iPhone to enable iPhone 4 users to shoot, edit and share videos.
Better Camera: iPhone 4 comes with a 5-megapixel camera as compared to iPhone 3GS 3.2 megapixel camera. But more importantly iPhone 4’s camera comes with built-in LED flash. So you’ll be able to finally take low light photos with iPhone 4.
A4 Chip: iPhone 4 will be powered Apple’s A4 chip. The same chip that powers Apple’s iPad. A4 is very good with very power management as we have seen with the long battery life of iPad.
Improved Battery Life: The battery of iPhone 4 is bigger. So with the bigger battery and A4 chip, Apple has managed to improve battery life as compared to iPhone 3GS.
- Talk time:
Up to 7 hours on 3G (iPhone 3GS: Up to 5 hours on 3G)
Up to 14 hours on 2G (iPhone 3GS: Up to 12 hours on 2G) - Standby time:Up to 300 hours (iPhone 3GS: Up to 300 hours)

PwnageTool and Redsn0w for iPhone OS 3.1.3
Feb 8th
iPhone Dev Team has released PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac users who have jailbroken and unlocked (using ultrasn0w) their iPhone to help them safely upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3, preserving the jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock.
Interestingly iPhone Dev Team are calling this the “Pre-game show”. They have mentioned:
We aren’t revealing any new exploits to Apple with this jailbreak. Everything here has been used before, it’s just a straightforward port of Pwnage2 and 24Kpwn to the new firmware. It’s possible the new firmware was released largely to flush out new exploits before the next big release. We won’t be biting.
They have the following advice before using PwnageTool 3.1.5 or Redsn0w, so please read it VERY carefully:
iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers should always be very wary to update their firmware. This is no exception. If you make a mistake along the way you may find yourself updating to official 3.1.3 in which case you will lose your unlock, possibly forever.
iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak.
If you really truly feel that you need to update, this version creates a custom 3.1.3 IPSW for you to restore to on your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS with early bootrom, iPod touch 1G, and iPod touch 2G with early bootrom. If you don’t know if you have an early bootrom or not, please avoid updating until you learn more.
You don’t need to be pre-jailbroken on anything but the iPod touch 2G early bootrom. And really for that device, it’s faster and easier to use redsn0w 0.9.4 as mentioned in our last post. For that matter, if you have an ipt1g, iphone2g, or iphone3g(and don’t need an unlock), you should use redsn0w too (but version 0.9.3). It’s faster and you won’t have to go through a full restore process (just do an update then run redsn0w, pointing it at 3.1.2 FW instead of 3.1.3).
They have the following advice for iPhone 3GS users:
If you have an iPhone 3GS, PwnageTool works if you’re currently at version 3.1.2 or below (down to 3.0). You don’t need to be already jailbroken — PwnageTool will ask you if you’re jailbroken after you’ve created the IPSW. Don’t use PwnageTool on the iPhone 3GS if you’re at 3.1.3, it just won’t work. Downgrade to 3.1.2 using the methods described here. If you can’t downgrade because you don’t have your 3GS 3.1.2 hashes on file with Cydia, you’ll need to sit out the 3.1.3 jailbreak.

Jailbreak/unlock iPhone 3.1.2 using blacksn0w
Nov 4th
Today Geohot has released his blacksn0w baseband 05.11.07 unlock for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. If you would like to unlock your iPhone on firmware 3.1.2 and use them with other carriers, this tutorial will show you how.Geohot has decided to release his blacksn0w iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS unlock software today instead of November 4. It can be installed directly through blackra1n RC3. In this page I will show you how you can get blacksn0w on your iPhone. |
|
| When Apple released the iPhone 3.1 firmware, it updated the baseband (modem firmware) for all iPhone 3G and 3GS users and fixed an exploit that allowed iPhone users to software unlock their iPhones. While there were some iPhone users that were smart enough to wait and update using iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool software, many people still updated through iTunes unknowingly and their unlock was compromised. While the firmware on an iPhone can be downgraded, baseband upgrades are permanent. For months iPhone owners that had their baseband (or modem firmware) updated to version 05.11.07 were left without an unlock.
Fortunately on November 4, this is all going to change. Expert iPhone hacker, Geohot has found an exploit in baseband 05.11.07 which will allow iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS users to get their iPhone unlock back! At this moment Geohot is working on his iPhone unlock dubbed blacksn0w and he plans to release it to us on November 4.

Jailbreak/Unlock iPhone 3G, 3GS Using BlackSn0w [Windows/Mac]
Nov 4th
| These are instructions on how to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 3G and 3GS using BlackRa1n and BlackSn0w for Windows.
These instructions will work with the latest 3.1.2 firmware, the 05.11.07 baseband, and iPhones which require hactivation. If you have already jailbroken following these instructions to unlock will be easier. For those with a new iPhone 3GS (updated Bootrom), BlackRa1n only supports a tethered jailbreak. This means that once jailbroken you should not let your battery die. If it does die you will need to reconnect it to the computer and use BlackRa1n to boot it. Before continuing make sure you are on the 05.11.07 baseband. If you are not please update your firmware to 3.1.2 using iTunes before continuing. |
